AMI Archives

The Archives of the AMI is housed in the Dorothy Carpenter Medical Archives of the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University. The collection represents the history of the Association gathered since its organization in 1945.

The collection includes:
  • List of officers and committee chairs
  • Minutes of board meetings
  • Committee reports
  • Correspondence of historical significance
  • Financial reports
  • Information about annual meetings
  • Applications for membership
  • Directories
  • Journals
  • Newsletters
  • Group photographs of members
  • Candid photographs of meeting activities
  • Slides of entries in recent annual salon exhibits
  • Small amount of original medical art

AMI archival materials were transferred to the Dorothy Carpenter Medical Archives in February of 1995. A professional archivist is in the process of arranging, describing and preserving these materials and developing procedures for use within the Archives. This work is being supported by a three-year grant from the AMI and the Vesalius Trust. Future activities of the Archivist will include continued collection and maintenance of archival materials, exhibits, oral histories, and attendance at annual meetings.

The Archives is open to the public for research from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Patrons are encouraged to call the Archives before their visits. The Archives is located on the "E" floor of the Gray Building in the Bowman Gray School of Medicine.
