Committees

The majority of the maintenance and development of the AMI is overseen by its committees. Committees are created, and their chairs appointed, by the Chair of the Board of Governors. All AMI members are encouraged to volunteer their services in committees in order to enhance the AMI and their profession.

 Professional Guidelines

Tonya Hines

The Professional Guidelines Committee educates AMI members, clients, and the general public on issues related to business practices and employment of medical illustrators. The committee gathers both statistical and empirical data through surveys, interviews, and peer reviews. The committee conducts a biannual Compensation & Pricing Survey, and writes and updates the Medical Illustration Business Practices booklet. Currently we are rewriting the Business Practices booklet chapters 4-7. Volunteers with strong writing skills are needed to do research and be reviewers for specific chapters. In the fall of 2008, we will begin preparing the Compensation & Pricing Survey Questionnaire and seeking an online survey company to host the survey in May 2009. The committee could particularly use volunteers who have experience conducting surveys, statistical analysis, or database design. We also have a special need for someone who knows how to set up a wiki for the Business Practices booklet.

Needs: welcomes new members with experience in writing, surveys, statistical analysis, database design, or wiki set-up.

The Newsletter Committee oversees content and publication of the AMI News, the Association's official newsletter, currently published every four months. Editorial duties are handled by the editor-in-chief as well as the committee chair. Contributing authors from the general membership and assigned columnists provide content: greater contribution makes a more interesting and robust issue. The AMI News is the official means by which the AMI's financial statements, presidential addresses, awards and election candidates are presented within the association: it provides a very important link between members for this reason.
