The AMI participates in the governance of CAAHEP by sending a member of ARC-MI (Accreditation Review Committee for the Medical Illustrator), as commissioner, to CAAHEP meetings (3 year term). |

Established under the direction of the Board of Governors of the AMI in 1988, the Trust develops and supports education and research programs in the field of health science communications. The Vesalius Trust also provides student scholarships, educational grant funding, support for the AMI's annual meeting, and support to the AMI Archives. |

The American Society of Illustrators' Partnership is the formal non-profit incorporation of the Illustrators' Partnership Reprographics Coalition, comprising 14 illustration associations representing over 5,000 of the most prolific and widely published illustrators in the world. They have united to establish a collecting society by making a proper claim on illustrators' reprographic royalties, and creating a collecting and distributing mechanism to return this income to the rightsholders who've earned it. AMI is one of the 6 founders of ASIP. |

It allows artists to describe usage rights using licensing codes and embed those terms into an image’s metadata. AMI is a professional association member of PLUS. |

The Board of Certification of Medical Illustrators administers a program for the certification of medical illustrators. It provides a recognizable means of signifying a practitioner's current competency in the profession of medical illustration.
The certification program and examination process is based on Standards established by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). The NCCA, along with its parent body, the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA), are recognized leaders in setting quality standards for credentialing organizations to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of the public. |
