This year's meeting will be held at Portland State University located centrally in downtown Portland!

All programs and social events will take place at the Smith Memorial Student Union (SMSU) located on Portland State's campus at 1825 SW Broadway Ave. Workshops will be held on the campuses of Portland State, Pacific Northwest College of Art, and Oregon Health and Science University, please see the Workshop page for specific locations.

:: ACCOMMODATIONS

Attendees have two housing options at the 2010 meeting:

Reduced-rate rooms in the heart of downtown Portland at the Hilton Portland and Executive Tower; and low-cost dorm rooms at the Ondine at Portland State University (visit The Ondine on YouTube). Please note that in order to receive discounted room rates, all housing (dorm or hotel) must be booked through the meeting registration site.

Please note the important booking and cancellation notices:

  • For dorm rooms, your total stay will be applied to your credit card at the time of booking. Cancellations received after June 27 will not receive a refund. Cancellations received before June 27, 2010 will be refundable minus a $5.00 service fee.
  • For the Hilton, book your room by June 26 in order to receive the contracted rate. A one night deposit plus tax will be applied at the time of booking. Cancellations received within 30 days of arrival will not receive a refund of the one night deposit.

    :: Hotel option

    In the heart of downtown, the AMI has a block of discounted rooms only blocks away from the PSU campus at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower and the Marriott Portland City Center at a rate of $129 per day plus 12.5% tax. In order to receive this reduced rate, book your room through the meeting registration site.

    :: Dorm rates and general info
    • Standard room including two single beds and a private bath is $45 per night. ($22.50 per person per day for those sharing!) If two guests would like to share the cost of a room, one roommate will need to make the reservation through the meeting web site registration process -- Do not contact PSU! -- and provide payment information through the on line meeting web site registration page.
    • Check in: 2pm - 8pm
      University housing has limited staff. Please make travel arrangements to check-in prior to 8pm.
    • Check out: 11am
    • Earliest arrival date: Tuesday, July 27
    • Latest Departure date: Sunday, August 1


    The fully furnished room includes:

    • Free wireless access
    • Fans
    • Coffee pots
    • Phone
    • Alarm clocks
    • Towels will be provided regularly* to each guest during their stay (weekdays only, for weekends extra supplies will be provided)
    • Fresh bed linens will be provided to each guest during their stay.

    Plan accordingly for your stay! Rooms do not include:

    • Hangers
    • Hair dryers
    • Toiletry products
    • Air conditioning
    • Irons
    • Double beds
    • TVs

    Other amenities:

    • All guests will be provided access to the Peter Stott Center, which has weight rooms, basketball and racquetball courts, and a swimming pool.
    • Victor's, an affordable all-you-can eat dining hall, is located on the ground floor.

    Dorm Policies:

    • General housekeeping of rooms during a guest's stay is the responsibility of the guest.
    • Smoking: Summer Housing and Conferencing, as part of Portland State University, operates a smoke-free environment. However, smoking is permitted in Ondine Hall in the privacy of each guest's room with the door closed, but is not permitted in any common areas such as hallways, lobbies, or balconies.
    • Alcoholic beverages: By law the consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted for guests under the age of 21. Of age guests are allowed to consume alcohol only in the privacy of their room with the door closed.
    • Keys and Access Cards: Guests will be charged $25 for lost or stolen room keys and $20 for lost or stolen front door keys, fobs, or access cards. Keys, fobs, and access cards must be returned on the checkout date, or guests will be subject to additional room charges.
    • Quiet Hours: Please help maintain a comfortable living environment for everyone by maintaining quiet hours from 10pm to 8am.
    • Guest Property: Summer Housing and Conferencing strive to provide a safe environment. Summer Housing and Conferencing is not responsible for any guest's lost, stolen, or damaged property.
    • Summer Housing and Conferencing staff will be available to all guests, between 8am and 8pm. 24 hour emergency service wil be available.
    • Individual guests will be charged for additional housekeeping or maintenance costs incurred by Summer Housing and Conferencing that are above and beyond normal wear and tear.
    • Summer Housing and Conferencing reserves the right to terminate a guest stay, without refund, for conduct considered inappropriate by Summer Housing and Conferencing.


    :: PARKING:
    As with most metropolitan cities, parking is limited and can be pricey. Both Portland State and the Portland Hilton have parking structures with full and limited security. Please consider the following information for parking.

    PSU Daily Parking:
    Daily parking for the meeting is available in Parking Structure 1 (PS1) located at 6th and Harrison, across the street from Smith Memorial Student Untion, daily fee is $11.00 ($5.00 on Saturday). PS1 is secured, with an attendant, daily from 7:00am - 7:00pm. A weekly pass for $40 is available through Portland State, for more information call PSU Parking and Transportation Services at (503) 425-3442.

    Ondine Housing:
    For attendees staying at Ondine, overnight parking is available in PS1. For overnight rates and policies, check with PSU Parking and Transporation Services, or by phone, (503) 425-3442.

    Hilton:
    Overnight self-parking is available at the Hilton for $20.00 daily with In and Out privileges. Overnight valet parking is available for $27.00 with In and Out privileges.

    Marriott:
    Overnight valet parking is available at the Marriott for $29.00.

    Getting to Portland

    :: Air

    PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL (PDX) AIRPORT
    Thirteen air carriers currently serve PDX offering nonstop flights to major domestic destinations and connecting service to points around the globe. PDX is approximately 30-45 min from downtown. For more information visit The Portland International Airport website.

    A great way to and from both the Hilton and PSU is the lightrail (approx $4 from airport!) Check out Portland's TriMet transportation system.

    Light rail directions from PDX to The Ondine Hall:

    • To get to the Ondine via the light rail, take the MAX Red Line to City Center & Beaverton TC.
    • Get off at the Mall/SW 5th Ave MAX station and walk 1 block south to Pioneer Place/SW 5th.
    • Board the MAX Yellow or Green Line to City Center/PSU. Get off at the PSU/SW 5th & Mill St MAX station.
    • Walk two blocks up 5th Ave to SW Hall St and take a right. Walk one block to 6th Ave and then turn left.
    • The Ondine will be on your left walking up 6th Ave (1912 SW 6th Ave).

    Light rail directions from PDX to The Hilton Portland & Executive Tower and Marriott Portland City Center:
    • To get to the hotels via the light rail take the MAX Red Line to City Center & Beaverton TC.
    • Get off at the Mall/SW 5th Ave MAX station.
    • For the Hilton walk 1 block west to 6th Ave. Then walk two blocks north and turn left. The entrance to the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower is at the corner of 5th and Taylor (545 SW Taylor).
    • For the Marriott walk 2 blocks west and 2 blocks north to 520 SW Broadway.

    Ground Transport with BlueStar Shuttle Services:
    For additional ground transportation from the airport, BlueStar Shuttle has a hotel loop that drops at the Hilton Portland and Executive Tower, the Marriott Portland City Center, as well as Ondine (door-to-door). Cost is $14.00 one way. Blue Star airport shuttles are located outside baggage claim on Island 2; look for the Scheduled Buses and Vans pick-up area.     Driving directions from Portland International Airport to The Ondine Hall:

    • Head southwest on NE Airport Way toward NE Air Cargo Rd for (2.3 mi)
    • Take the ramp onto I-205 S (3.1 mi)
    • Take exit 21B to merge onto I-84 W/US-30 W toward Portland (5.4 mi)
    • Take the exit on the left onto I-5 S toward Beaverton/Salem (1.6 mi)
    • Make a slight left at I-405 N (signs for I-405/US-26/City Center/Beaverton) (0.6 mi)
    • Take exit 1C to merge onto SW 6th Ave, Ondine Hall will be on your right at 1912 SW 6th Ave.
    Driving Directions from Portland International Airport to The Hilton Portland & Executive Tower:
    • Head southwest on NE Airport Way toward NE Air Cargo Rd for (2.3 mi)

    • Drive 4 blocks and turn right on SW Taylor.
    • The Hilton Executive Towers will be on your right before the corner of 6th and Taylor (545 SW Taylor)
    Driving directions from Portland International Airport to Marriott Portland City Center:
    • Take I-205 South to I-84 West.
    • Follow the City Center signs across Morrison Bridge to Washington Street.
    • The hotel is located on the left, at the corner of Washington and Broadway (520 SW Broadway).

    AMTRAK
    Portland Union Station is conveniently located downtown and is only a few light rail stops away from PSU. If you're able to take the train, this might be an easy, economical way to travel!


    :: Ground Transportation

    If you don't hail from too far away, taking a bus into Portland might be an economical way of travel! Check out schedules at Greyhound.

    Portland's TriMet transportation system
    Portland's TriMet transportation system includes bus light rail, commuter rail, and streetcar service around Portland and its metropolitan area. The MAX Light Rail and Portland Streetcar are FREE all day, every day within the Free Rail Zone, which includes Portland State University and most of downtown.
