AMI provides 4 classes of membership

Professional Member

Generally speaking, AMI Professional Members are artists who make medical illustration their primary profession. They are accepted into membership by vote of the Board of Governors, after a review of recommendations by the Membership Committee. This category requires portfolio review, sponsorship and experience as a medical illustrator. Only Professional Members may vote on Association business and hold office.

Trial Membership is available to those interested in medical illustration and want to learn more about the Association of Medical Illustrators, and have not been a member during the previous two years. It is one-time only, non-renewable, and cannot be pro-rated. Membership will end on December 31 of the trial membership year. The fee for this membership is $100.00. Members in this category are not eligible to vote, hold office, or participate in the mentor program. In addition, entry into the salon is not allowed under this option.

Trial Membership Flyer (pdf)

"Since joining as a trial member in 2010, I have enjoyed the online communication with the community...it is PRICELESS and I feel like I have a home and a professional family. I believe that as a professional member I will learn more about the ins and outs of the industry with more confidence and know-how in pursuing the right types of business arrangements."

Peter Jurek, AMI Professional Member (Joined as Trial Member in 2010/Renewed as Professional Member in 2011)

Student Member

Student Members are those who are enrolled in either a baccalaureate or graduate program in medical illustration or related professions pertaining to biomedical communications. They may continue as Student Members through the first annual meeting following their graduation and receive special discount membership dues and registration rates. They have no voting privileges.

Emeritus Status

Any individual who has reached the age of 65, and has been a member in good standing for 30 years, has the option of becoming an Emeritus member. Emeritus members retain all their membership privileges, receive a discounted registration rate for the annual meeting, and may request a permanent reduction in their annual dues to half of the normal rate. This reduction reflects our appreciation for their continued support of the AMI and the value of their contribution to our profession.
